Workshop at the oil-painting restoration organised by the Mureș County Museum

At the professional oil-painting retouching workshop held by the Mureș County Museum on 23–29 October, the museums and institutes taking part included the National Museum of Art Timișoara and the Szekler Museum of Ciuc, the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design of the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the Institute of Conservation of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest, and specialists of the National Museum Restoration and Storage Centre.

The museum, which holds more than 200,000 objects, created this special event as a forum for restorers and art professionals, where participants can share their knowledge with one another within the professional workshop and can also think together about larger-scale professional solutions.
At the demonstration, the paintings intended for restoration were examined beforehand, several of them with the Phase One Rainbow photo-diagnostic process presented by Tripont.

Among the digitised paintings were three works by the most famous Romanian painter, Nicolae Grigorescu. Nicolae Grigorescu is one of the founding figures of modern Romanian painting, so it is understandable that most of his works are a research topic of particular importance for Romanian art history.

With the Phase One system provided by Tripont, three works by Nicolae Grigorescu were digitised during the event: the paintings “Landscape” (Táj), “Between Hills and Mounds” (Dombok és halmok között) and “The Barbizon Intendant” (Barbizoni intendáns). Thus these pictures too became eternal points of art history, since thanks to professional digitisation the current state of the pictures can be perfectly recovered even if the paintings were to be destroyed.
