Cintel Scanner
The creativity of film combined with the revolution of design!
Cintel has been a leader in film scanning technology for decades. Now the new Cintel Scanner G3 HDR+ has taken the art of film scanning to a higher level. The new scanner features an entirely new transmissive lighting technique that enables real-time Ultra HD scanning of HDR film. It has also kept the great qualities of Cintel scanners, such as the digital servo, the gentle drive mechanism, advanced colour science, support for 35 and 16 mm film, and its elegant, high-end appearance. The Cintel scanner is the perfect choice for processing huge archive film libraries. You can easily turn old films into new UHD “masters”, and then upload them for online streaming.

Convert existing film to Ultra HD
Almost every home now has a UHD 4K television, and demand for Ultra HD content has never been so great. Studios around the world made several million hours of film over the past 100 years, but most of it was stored on reels. All 35 mm films are of 4K resolution, so converting older film libraries is a quick and inexpensive way of getting Ultra HD content to consumers! The Cintel scanner scans both 35 mm negative and positive film at astonishing quality. By unlocking the extra resolution of 35 mm film, it produces footage that no one has ever seen before! There could be no simpler way of making Ultra HD feature films and television programmes!
The creative advantages of film
Nothing looks more like film than film! Well-shot 35 mm film has an unmistakable look, and every digital cinema camera tries to represent it. The greatest filmmakers in Hollywood, even with the most wonderful digital cinema cameras, still like to shoot on 35 mm film, not only for its sharpness, dynamic range and colorimetry but above all for its classic film creative style. Unfortunately, the cost of digitising film used to be high, but that is a thing of the past: the Cintel scanner is the solution.
Preserve historical footage
Cintel scanners feature the most advanced Image Mill processing technology. With its optical stabilisation technology it is the perfect choice for archive conversion and restoration projects. Thanks to the Cintel’s ultra-thin dimensions, you can mount it on a desk or even on a wall. The scanner also provides an additional mounting point for adding audio pickups or key-code readers. You can even buy your own scanner, so you do not have to take your valuable films away from home to have them converted. The Cintel Scanner lets you create stabilised files that are ready for digital restoration and mastering.
Special light source
The new Cintel Scanner G3 HDR+ features an entirely new high-intensity light source and advanced colour science, delivering incredibly sharp, high-quality images of the scanned film, even while running in real time. Its RGB LED grid illumination source is designed to work with the extremely sensitive image sensor and ensures that priceless film is never exposed to the unnecessary heat load and colour fading of traditional scanner lamps.

Create stunning HDR images
35 mm films are characterised by an extremely high dynamic range and native 4K resolution. The Cintel scanner has a 35 mm sliding gate. With the optional 16 mm gate, available to buy separately, you can create digital masters with better colours than ever, more texture and more detail. All this makes it possible to meet the growing demand for 4K HDR content at streaming providers such as Netflix, AppleTV, HULU, etc., too. The Cintel Scanner is designed to work with DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is included in the package. In addition to advanced colour correction, DaVinci Resolve Studio also includes “revival” tools. These are the perfect choice for automatic dirt removal, dust removal, deflickering, repairing blemishes with intelligent fill technology, and advanced temporal and spatial noise reduction. A Cintel scanner and DaVinci Resolve Studio together give you everything you might need for scanning, colour correcting, restoring and distributing a whole film library in high-dynamic-range Ultra HD!

Innovative design
The Cintel scanner is built using aircraft design techniques. It was designed to look beautiful on a wall, yet also to provide a rigid, vibration-free surface so that the film can be handled smoothly. The base frame is a super-rigid structural space frame, which results in a body that is dramatically lighter and more durable than older, simplified heavy sheet-metal designs. This means the Cintel scanner is light enough to be wall-mounted, becoming part of the structure. Whether wall-mounted or used on a desk, its innovative design includes sliding doors, built-in cleaning rollers and new digital servos that gently handle your precious negatives.

Latest technology The Cintel scanner is a technological innovation. Film was traditionally a mechanical technology, requiring experienced engineers to keep it running. The Cintel scanner is equipped with Blackmagic Design’s latest image processing technology and features PCIe connectivity as well as Thunderbolt 3. That is, you can connect it to your Mac, Windows or Linux computer as well. It receives easy-to-install software updates, and its features keep expanding.
Real-time scanning The Cintel scanner is the world’s first real-time 4K film scanner to use Thunderbolt 3, which makes it super easy to set up and install. Thanks to the diffuse, high-intensity light source, the Cintel scanner runs at a steady real-time speed, so film handling is gentle and transfer stays super fast. The Thunderbolt 3 connection has a huge speed of 40 Gb/s, so you can send all this data directly into your computer without quality restrictions. With the Cintel scanner you get the high resolution of a film scanner with the real-time operation of a traditional telecine!

Complete solution
The Cintel scanner includes everything for scanning and grading films on a computer. In addition to the powerful built-in Image Mill stabiliser, the base package includes a 35 mm HDR film gate (16 mm film can be purchased separately), two film reels, four cleaning rollers, desktop legs and DaVinci Resolve Studio software. DaVinci Resolve also includes grain reduction, dust removal and dirt removal tools. The Blackmagic Design Cintel scanner is a complete solution. There are no hidden installation, software update or ongoing licence fees.
