Multispectral analysis

Invisible layers · erased writing · authenticity

With the Phase One Rainbow multispectral system we reveal information that is invisible to the human eye. Using a filter wheel, the system takes a sequence of images one after another, from ultraviolet to infrared, in a few minutes.

We use it for research and industrial tasks, working with universities, research institutions and our partners.

What it is for

  • Erased, scraped-off writing

Recovering scratched-out names and deleted entries.

  • Overwritten text

    Separating later corrections and layers.

  • Authenticity analysis

Examining the authenticity of documents and artworks.

  • Forensics

Examination of traces, fingerprints and evidence.

How we work

From test capture to archive

  1. 01

    Test capture

“A test capture is worth more than the most eloquent specification.” The work starts with a sample capture of your own material, which shows what equipment and settings are needed.

  2. 02

In the studio or on site

We work in our studio on Reitter Ferenc utca, and we set up wherever the collection is: in the off-site store of the Ráday Collection, at the Otto von Habsburg Foundation or at the Batthyaneum Library (a branch of the National Library of Romania) in Alba Iulia.

  3. 03

    Capture under conservation rules

We adapt the conditions to the object. According to the manufacturer, multispectral capture is a contact-free, non-destructive process using low-energy LED lighting.

  4. 04

    Delivery and publication

We deliver the images in the format the client requires. On request, we also publish them in searchable form in our own archive system, the Heritage digital archive.
