On 29 May 2025, a much-needed event takes place at the intersection of Hungarian culture and the creative industries: organised jointly by FreeDee and Tripont Cultural Heritage Solutions, it is the first professional day to focus on the impact of 3D scanning on art, culture and design. The event is hosted by the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), which has for decades been the cradle of creative technologies in Hungary.

This pioneering event is not merely a technology showcase but also an inspiring meeting point for all who believe that modern 3D tools – such as 3D scanning or photogrammetry – are not only for industrial applications but have become indispensable tools for the digital preservation of cultural heritage and for work in the creative industries and architecture.

Both heritage preservation and the creative industries are at the forefront of the times

3D scanning is no longer just a toy for engineers: art historians, museum professionals, conservators, architects and designers have all discovered its potential. Through proven examples of application, the open day of Tripont and FreeDee shows how a work of art thousands of years old can be reconstructed digitally, how a fresco in an endangered condition can be documented to millimetre accuracy, or how an entire archaeological site can become walkable with the help of VR goggles.

Among the technologies presented will be the latest 3D scanners from Verus Digital and Artec 3D, which visitors can also try out during practical workshops. The programme also touches on areas such as digital restoration, building scanning, virtual museums, and CGI and AR applications.
