Phase One iXH, the new level of reprography

2023. 01. 12. | Egyéb kategória

“A digital copy of an art object is more valuable to researchers, the more information it contains,” said art historian Dr. Johannes Röll, director of the Bibliotheca Hertziana, in an interview. Phase One has developed yet another fantastic tool for producing these high-information images. Although this black metal bar may seem boring at first glance, its capabilities are quite impressive. This camera, along with Capture One CH software, is capable of things that the entire GLAM sector and the scientific and technical photography industry can benefit from.

Excellent image quality and A0@300ppi digitization with a single shot

Designed around a 151 megapixel CMOS sensor, the iXH 150MP camera can digitize plane objects up to A/0 size with a single shot with a resolution of 300ppi. Thanks to the BSI (Back Side Illumination) technology, the sensor has a wide dynamic range (15 light values). Thanks to this, every small detail of the subject can be captured with unparalleled detail and color fidelity. The huge resolution and high-precision color reproduction are an incredible advantage in all areas of artefact digitization.

“The iXH camera system is designed to be durable and ‘future-proof’!”

Accurate color reproduction and wide spectral sensitivity

There are three versions of the iXH 150MP camera. In addition to the model equipped with an RGB sensor for general use, there is also an Achromatic (monochrome) and a WS (wide spectrum) version. The latter combine the enormous resolution with the wide spectral sensitivity, so they are excellently suited for special scientific imaging tasks, such as the examination of paintings and manuscripts with narrowband or multiband technology.

In addition to the wide spectrum, the iXH 150MP Achromatic version has high light sensitivity (ISO 200-102400), incredible dynamic range and amazing sharpness due to the non-interpolated imaging technology.

Thanks to the multispectral sensitivity covering both the UV and IR ranges, the iXH 150MP WS is the right tool for examining paintings or for medical and forensic imaging applications. With a simple IR blocking filter, this device can also be used as a normal camera.

FADGI, Metamorfoze, ISO 19264 and “White Book”

After setup and on-site calibration by properly trained professionals, the camera, lens and software meet the requirements of museum technology image quality standards. The entire workflow can be standardized, quality control is possible at several points, so the device and the entire workflow are suitable for archival digitization and the large-scale production of researchable PDOs (Preservation Digital Objects).

Brand new UltraRes RS 72mm MkII lens

The 72 mm lens, specially designed by Phase One for reprographic purposes, provides perfect sharpness up to the image edges in all imaging ranges thanks to the innovative UltraRes technology and its special optical design. This lens can also meet the resolution requirements of sensors with a resolution of 150 megapixels or higher.

Of course, the iXH 150MP camera is also available with the Schneider-Kreuznach RS 120mm macro lens. The 21 mm and 42 mm intermediate rings can be used together with the 120 mm lens for high-resolution macro shots. With these two lenses, it is also possible for libraries, archives and universities to make planar reproductions and photographs of art objects that meet the highest requirements.

  • Flat-corrected mapping
  • “Floating” lens elements
  • Designed for the iXH sensor
  • High resolution
  • Perfect sharpness
  • Freedom from distortion
  • Uniform color reproduction

Shutter mechanism guaranteed up to one million exposures

The electromagnetic Reliance Shutter is a precision structure with an exceptionally long service life, designed for industrial loads, and is therefore suitable for even the most demanding digitization projects. But you only need to use it if you are shooting with a flash, because this is the only way to synchronize the flashes. Otherwise, if you take pictures with constant light, for example with a high CRI LED panel or a special Cultural Heritage LED system, you can also expose with the electronic “shutter” (ES) built into the back wall. In this mode, without moving parts, an unlimited number of shots can be taken.

    New heat dissipation system

The newly designed housing, with its internal and external cooling fins, ensures the low temperature of the sensor even with all-day live image use. This results in noise-free images and reliable operation even during long periods of continuous use.

A data connection designed for efficient work

The iXH 150MP is the world’s only camera designed for cultural heritage digitization with 10G Ethernet and USB-C interfaces. These high-bandwidth standards ensure fast and reliable data transmission.

    The Infinity Platform

The iXH camera is designed around the Infinity Platform, a high-performance camera control and image processing framework previously only available in the iQ4 backend. The open Infinity Platform allows the capabilities of the same hardware device to be expanded with new functions in the future, making the entire system “future-proof”. The platform can handle large files smoothly and at high speed, thus helping continuous work in mass digitization projects.

    iXH + Capture One CH

The camera and the Capture One CH (Cultural Heritage) software form a complementary, efficient system. The camera can be controlled from the program, the read raw data set, the correction and precise conversion of the RAW file into standard archive file formats takes place here. All details and functions of the program have been designed to support practical work and to make maximum use of the capabilities of the recording device based on decades of digitization experience.

Capture One CH supports productivity with unique features:

    • Negative film reproduction device
    • Non-destructive RAW session
    • Automatic corrections for presentation purposes
    • Auto crop and auto rotate
    • AutoColumn control
    • AutoPPI and PPI-Assist – resolution-dependent camera control technologies: the Autocolumn motorized repro stand and the Capture One CH software are able to cooperate with each other for automated positioning of the camera to achieve the defined PPI value.
    • Barcode scanner Advanced metadata management, even with a database connection
    • Open platform, scriptable, customizable via SDK
    • It is possible to use a simplified interface for untrained operators
